So, I have an air leak I can hear it. I have found this part needing replacement and it is at least tied somewhat to the air system. Okay, so it's not letting me load pic. It goes from engine block to the house behind the air filter. AutoZone said it might be fresh air intake or air bypass but weren't really sure. I'll try to load pic again.

Hi,

I made a copy of your pic and circled what I believe you are referring to. If I am wrong, let me know.

As far as the item is concerned, that is the PCV hose. There is a valve on one end and the other end is connected to the air inlet tube. See pics below

Let me know if I have the correct part. Also, note there is another PCV hose and valve at the rear of the engine between the intake manifold and the valve cover.

Take care,

Joe

That is what I was referring to. What is that valve called? The part that goes into the engine. Also, the open screw hole in the engine block 2 inches to the right of valve is that supposed to be empty? Thanks

What is the name of the valve? Do you have a part number for the valve? Thanks

Hi,

The valve is called a PCV valve. PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. It releases crankcase pressure and gases from the engine and re-burns them in the engine.

Remember, there are two on this vehicle as mentioned above. If you look below, I attached the manufacturer's part numbers and a pic of the two different valves. I'm confident you can get them for less at a parts store or somewhere like Rockauto.com.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

See pic below. I'm not 100% sure based on the pic, but I believe the part ending with 384 is the one you need. Check to see if pic 2 looks like what you have.

Yes, that is very helpful. I'm having issues with accelerating up especially when its hot, Vegas, struggles going up hills like no power or running rich/lite. Just changed evap canister it helped a bit wondering if this could maybe help.

Hi,

The PCV won't cause it to run rich. Instead, it could do the opposite. When you say there is a power loss, the first thing I suspect is a possible plugged catalytic converter. Take a look at this link and let me know if anything seems to mirror what you experience:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/bad-catalytic-converter-symptoms

Also, are you saying there is a light coming on indicating a rich fuel mixture?

Let me know.

There is no light just going by what the car feels like. The code it threw was a p448. I've changed the evap canister and have ordered an evap purge valve. When the outside temperature is above 95° and/or going up a hill is when I'll notice the most. It will start to accelerate then start Stuttering and shaking really bad like wants to stall almost but not that bad. Then the car will downshift, and RPMs will shoot up to 3.5-6k unless you smash the gas or feather the pedal to a point where it shifts back up and can accelerate properly.

Hi,

I just tried to look up the P0448 code for this vehicle. It isn't relevant for this vehicle. Are you sure that is correct? See pic below

Next, is that code still present? Is that the only code that was stored?

Let me know.

Hi,

This is an interesting one. I'm aware the code is related to the canister vent valve, but it isn't listed for me. Instead, codes P0443 and P0449 are related.

I attached the diagnostics below for the codes I mentioned. Take a look and let me know if you are comfortable performing them or if you even feel they are relevant.

Let me know.

Joe

Hey sorry about this, I gave the wrong code p0449. I'm sorry to make you have to do more work. It says evaporation emission (evap) vent solenoid valve control circuit. With that I replaced the evap canister solenoid back by the gas tank. Next, I was going to change the evap purge valve in the engine because that is what came up on most popular fix is the purge valve that was O'Rielly's.

I can't read those pages with the symptoms I can't read. The whole left side of first page and right side of second page are cut off so really have no idea what's asking.

Hi,

Sorry about that. I didn't realize a portion was cut off. I attached it below.

The code that I provided the diagnostics for is specific to the P0449. Is there something different?

Let me know.

So, yes, I have no way of doing any of those tests didn't even understand most if it lol. P0449 is what was thrown. When it's hot or going uphill the car will start shaking badly and down shift so RPMs go way up. Have to feather the gas to get it to shift and run smoothly. This all started about a year ago when put Lucas fuel injection cleaner in my gas.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. By chance, did you ever locate the leak you mentioned above related to the PCV valve? Also, have any new codes shown up for you?

The code isn't a component issue, but instead, it is either a short to power, short to ground, or an open circuit.

When you replaced the vent solenoid, did you inspect the connector and wiring? With the key in the run position, are you getting power to the connector?

Let me know.

I searched AutoZone for PCV valve and this is what came up. Do you have part numbers for the valves?

Hi,

I only have the OEM part numbers. See pic attached below.

If you google search "GM part number ... " it should provide what is needed.

Let me know.

Thanks for part number. I'm getting a meter today to check voltage will let you know how that goes. Also, pic is a HP performance part that's junk. You see how it's wired spliced in. Could that be causing issues? So, I remove and connect wires back together? Thanks

Hi,

Is that being used in place of the mass air flow sensor? If it is, yes, that can be causing issues. Lord knows what it is doing.

Let me know.

Take care,

No, it's not in place of it's some module (because I don't know a better word to use) that you splice into whatever it said and supposed to increase horsepower by 50hp. Some gimmicky pos. If I can find any identification, I'll let you know.
