My wife was driving the car to pick me up from work. Went she showed up, the car sounded funny and stalled. Temperature gauge did not show if it was hot. But no water in reservoir for the radiator. But water in it after it cooled down, water poured out of the water pump. I know it is bad, but because it stalled out like that, could there be damage to the motor now? Put water in it to get on our car trailer, when started and drove onto ramp and trailer, sounded fine and still peppy. Would we know if it was damaged right away?

We know we need a water pump.

After that,

A cooling system pressure test might verify whether the head gaskets or heads sustained any damage. This might be rented at an auto parts store. (lots of times the 'rent' is free, they just require a deposit until you return it)

If it passes that, insure you install coolant in the proper percentage, drive it local a few days to see how it is behaving.

Return with happy news!
