The pulley blew off when cranking it. When it did the flange from the pump shaft came off with it. I got a new pulley because the old one was scared and the parts house said it was too big. The right one should only have 5 grooves. My question is, can the flange be put back on the shaft if so what holds it on?

Hi,

The flange at the end of the water pump pulley is not replaceable. If you look at the attached pic, I circled what I believe you are referring to. Please confirm and let me know.

Also, if the pump needs replaced, here is a link that shows in general how it's done.

Yes that is the flange that came off with the pulley. So there is no way to put it back on the shaft? I have to replace the water pump?

Hi,

If the flange is off the shaft, it broke. In that case, the pump needs replacement. The shaft which the flange is part of is non repairable.

Here is a link that shows in general how to replace a water pump:

I do have all the directions specific to your vehicle. Let me know if you need them. If so, I will turn this over to admin to have them sent.

Let me know if this helps.

Just to jump in and 2nd what Joe is saying. If you look at the process attached (first 2 attachments) it shows how to replace the pulley which bolts to the flange that has come out with the shaft. I have seen this a number of times and the only repair is to replace the water pump as the shaft is actually pressure fit into the flange.

Also, if this doesn't look like your pulley then you don't have the LUJ engine. You have the LUW engine. The first 5 attachments are for the LUJ engine and the last 2 are for the water pump replacement for the LUW engine.

You mentioned the parts store said it didn't look correct because I suspect they looked up the other engine from what you have.
