I've removed and tested both the Bank 2 sensor and valve control solenoid. The solenoid assy appeared in good order, the body moves freely, no oil sludge built-up, and I measured resistance across the coil. As for the sensor, I removed it and tested resistance across each of the three terminals. I read 1800 ohms between 2 terminals, and open circuit across the other 2 circuit possibilities (Lexus VVT sensor has 3 terminals and the engine was very warm to the touch but not burning). Is my sensor bad? Should I test the valve assy by dropping 12volts across the coil and observe operation?

I screwed up on reply vvt shouldhave 835-1400 ohms from 14-122 F or 1060-1645 @122-212F. this can be a short in wiring, the vvt solenoid, ecm , and or the cam timing gear a pro should check this one out
