I have the code P0501. Will this code cause the transmission to act up and not shift properly? Will this code cause the speedometer to not work?

it will do both if it is not working properly , keep in mind it may not be the VSS and could be a short in wiring as well.

replace the VSS and if that does not fix it then you will have to check for shorted wire with an ohm meter.

that is main shaft speed sensor check resistance per instructions sent, but i would bet it is a mechanical issue inside transmission.

Replace the main shaft speed sensor and it is drivable for now. I will be getting it rebuilt soon. Thanks for your help.
