2005 Volvo XC90 Leak detection pump

I took my volvo in because the check engine light came on. They said it was because of the gas cap. I paid them and went home. About a week later (and after only driving the car once) the check engine light came on again. This time they say it's the leak detection pump. Do you have any idea why the leak detection pump problem wasn't caught the 1st time I took the car in. do you have any idea how much it should cost to get this repaired?

They may have missed it because the code they saw could have being for a large leak. Large leaks usually is a losse cap. But the problem with the LDP is that they use current to identify evap leaks. As the pump ages it consumes more current. The first thing I would do if it were my vehicle is to check that the ecm software is current and up to date. If it is not then I believe you are eligible for the extended warranty for the engine management software upgrade which should compensate for an aging pump. If that does not help it then yes you will need to replace the pump.
