2002 Volvo XC70 All Wheel Drive Automatic 68,000 miles

I recently purchased a 2002 Volvo V70 XC wagon. The cruise control works intermittently. It doesn't drop out while driving - just sometimes it won't engage at all. The cruise light on the dash lights, but nothing else responds.

Make sure the cruise control switch is not sticking under the drivers air bag module. If it does then cruise control will not engage because it thinks you are still holding the cruise control switch in. If it does bind then gently pry back up on it again.

Thanks again - the switch activated at braking had occurred to me, but this hadn't. I'll check it out (gotta have that cruise!).
