1997 Volvo V70 Timing belt

1997 Volvo V70 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 158K miles

What additional repairs to the engine can be expected when a timing belt breaks. The mechanic who looked at the car mentioned a new head, water pump etc. He said a minimum of $700 but could be twice that.

Also, how difficult and expensive to fix a leak in the oil line to the turbo

Engine is an interference that means when T belt brakes pistons contact and bend valves. This requires head removal and more expense. The oil lines could run fromm $150 to $250

Docfixit is correct with the valves being bent. $700 is way too cheap. You should call a couple of other shops and tell them the timing belt broke and how much would a valve job cost since at the minimum that is what you will need. Once the head is off the water pump is right there and is not much more work to replace along with the tensioner and roller. As for the turbo return seals depends if this is all wheel drive or not will it affect the labor cost. If you do the head repair, the turbo needs to come off to remove the exhaust manifold so really you should only be paying for the parts and no more additional labor. So like I mentioned before, look around for another shop and a more realistic price quote. Also is this really a 1997 V70? Or is this a 1998?
