If I am in the neighborhood(stop n go) my AC doed not work. But If I get on I95 or any expressway or cruise control, the AC stays on until I get off an exit or hit my brakes. What is this? I had the freon taken out and replaced and still the same problem..one Person told me it the Compressor and I need a new one...I dont think so, because if it work s on the highway , how can it be that I need a compressor!

Check the clearance between the turning plate and the pulley using a feeler gauge. The clearance shall be 0.3-0.5 mm. 0.3 mm clearance all the way round. 0.6 mm shall not go in anywhere.

If you are not withing specs then the compressor clutch is worn. Usually when the gap is too wide during hot weather the expanding of the clutch will make the gap even wider and cause it to release. The clutch is replaceable but you may want to compare prices for just a clutch replacement vs. a new compressor. Either way the compressor needs to be removed for the repair.
