Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Volvo S70 Front Wheel Drive Manual 134000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I recently noticed a lifter knocking noise from the engine when the S70 T5 is idling for approximately 3-5min. The issue seems to acure in the morning hours after starting the car and then driving to a fast-food restaurant drive thru; while waiting to place an order –the lifter sound starts, but after driving the S70 on the highway the lifter sound goes away. Why is this happening? And do I have a bad lifter. Also when the S70 sits over 8 hours and then is started, there is a loud squealing/moaning sound and rapidly increases while applying more throttle, but goes away after the car warms up and it is not a bad belt sound. Dealership stated it was a minor issue- quote “takes time for the oil to circulate.” What does this mean?
Thanks

Hi there,

You will have a faulty lifter the lifter is bleeding down and causing the tick, this will have to be replaced, your other noise is a bit more of a mystery, unfortunately this is something that needs to be heard before a diagnoses can be made, and as for the comment about the slow oil circulation, all that is, as comment from a mechanic that could not be bothered to investigate the problem propperly... i would find one that will.
