2001 Volvo S60 Engine Overheating Error

When you go to start our car (cold) the temperature gauge goes all the way to red and a warning comes on to shut down the engine becasue it is overheating. I checked and the coolant temperature sensor is getting 5 volts from the car. Not sure how to check the sensor itself but it had no resistance.

Any help would be appreciated.

0 degrees celcius = 5740 ohms = 3.96 volts
10 " " = 3700 ohms = 3.56 volts
20 " " = 2450 ohms = 3.1 volts
40 " " = 1150 ohms = 2.17 volts
80 " " = 318 ohms = 0.87 volts
100 " " = 184 ohms = 0.55 volts
try and back probe the ect sensor connector while still connected. Start vehicle up and you should see some voltage drop from the sensor and as your vehiclewarms up the voltage should drop as well. If it does not look normal and you measrued the resistance across the sensor and read zero ohms then your sensor is bad. Good luck.
