2001 Volvo S40 Key fails to activate electrical system

This is the second instance in the last week where the vehicle has responded in this way. The electrical system was checked for codes but none appeared. The vehicle was driven for short distance, either turned off or put in the accessory position. When the key was turned to the start position, there was no response. A short time later the vehicle started as it normally does.

Maybe a faulty starter relay or shift emoblizer or starter solenoid. Problem to diagnois is it has to be in no start before tests can be made.
Do gagues and other electrical devices work? or just no start?

My wife has clarified the circumstances of the incident. She was parked with the ignition an accessory position and listening to the radio. She heard a clicking sound and soon afterward she lost all power. When she turned the ignition off and tried to start the vehicle again, there was no sound and no gages.

I think you need to check battery terminals. Clean and tighten believe poor conection is cause of no start.
