2000 Volvo S40 Rear disc brakes dragging

Brakes problem
2000 Volvo S40 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 130000 miles

My rear disc brakes rotors feel like and sound like they are dragging. I jacked the back end off the ground removed the tires and with the parking brake off I can hear the pads brushing the rotors as i turn them by hand. They seem to be dragging about the same on both sides.

Usually, if you can hear your rear brakes at all, they are metal to metal. Are your rear pads worn out? Please advise.

No there is still pad there. they are wearing. The pads are just seem to be dragging when you spin the hub with the tire removed. Could the caliper not be fully disengaging. Would it help to remove the pads grease and rewind the caliper into the piston. When you spin hub on each side both seem to be dragging about the same. When you apply the parking brake or depress the foot peddle they grab tight.

The pads will pull back off from the rotors only a few 10 thousandths of an inch. If the inner pad pulls back and the outer holds tight, the caliper could be stuck on the holder. You will have to pull the caliper, clean and re-lube the sliders. Also, on occasion, a little bit of air can get trapped in the caliper and hold tension on the piston(s). You can check this by cracking the bleeder and gravity will let the air out. My main concern is, even if any of the above conditions does exist, you still shouldn't hear any noise. Hope this helps.
