2000 Volvo S40 AIR BAG LIGHT

First of all thank you so much for your donation.The first thing we need to do is have you go to a place that can scan your air bag system for code's so we have a starting point.Also i would double check your connection under your seat.You can try to have them clear the code's but with a air bag system if the fault is gone the light will usually turn the light off by cyling the key.So most likely you have a fault in the air bag system so the best thing to do is to go have it scanned for code's and let me know the number's so we have a starting point.Hopefully it's just a loose wire because air bag's take special tool's to diagnose.

WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE SEAT? WAS IT FOR AN SRS REPAIR OR SOMETHING ELSE? IF IT WAS FOR SOMETHING ELSE AND THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THAT, IT MAY JUST NEED TO BE RESET.

If you want to buy a tool and not take it some where to check the air bag code's then here is a link for that tool.There are a lot of different one's.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR TAKE IT A FACILITY THAT HAS THE SYSTEM THAT CAN PLUG IN AND RESET THE CODES. MORE LIKELY GOING TO HAVE BE A DEALER. WHEN YOU CALL THE DEALER, LET THEM KNOW THAT ALL YOU NEED IS TO RESET THE CODES, YOU DONT NEED A DIAGNOSTIC.

ITS PROBABLY GOING TO BE LESS EXPENSIVE HAVING THE DEALER RESET THE SYSTEM RATHER THAN PURCHASING THE TOOL TO CLEAR IT.

You still may want to look under the seat to make sure everything is connected properly like the seat belt tensioner and side air bag, and also double check your connectors you unplugged when you removed the headliner. If connections are secure, try a battery reset. Disconnect both battery cables and touch them together. Leave it like that for 10 to 15 minutes. This will power down all the control modules. If you find the light is still on, then you will need to have the SRS unit scanned for trouble codes to see what the fault is to properly diagnose the fault.

OK, after I make sure everything is connected correctly, does the ignition switch need to be turned on or off to reset the airbag module or does that matter. Will just touching the cables together 10-15 min. clear it if a bad connection is the only problem.

Key off. If the faullt is still present then you will need to take it in and have it diagnosed.
