The EGR valve controls flow of exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. The valve is operated by control pressure from the EGR vacuum booster. The EGR valve is located under the intake manifold, if equipped.

Hey ALL..thanks for your help..is there REALLY NO EGR valve on this car? 1998 c70? My car has been running rough in gear, I cleaned the Throttle body, IAC, cleaned the MAF, chcmaged plugs..a mechanic told me it may be the EGR? after all that it threw a misfire codes on 2 plugs, I clean them ,it starts runs well and within a mile, I if I STOMPY on it, it stalls...? ANY HELP? This all started while sitting for 3 weeks just sitting without being started. Thanks again...Rick

No there is no EGR valve. Are there any other codes other then misfire codes stored in the control unit? How is the rest of the ignition sytem? How is your fuel pressure?

On the fuel pressure, not sure how to test that...and the rest of the ignition system seems fine so far, fuel rail is good, good rubber on fuel injectors..
The misfires where on 2 and 5...
I cleaned the new plugs and started car. Let it run in PARK for over an hour. It seem to be running lean, smell and thin whispy smoke at times. When this all started I took off spark plug cover and discovered oil under cover.. I am in the proces now of cleaning PCV system. I have the intake manifold (which has just a little bit of oil in it)... off, but overall the system does not look too bad or dirty. Also leading up to this, when I drove the car, it ran fine ..IF you babied it..and did not STOMP on it...if you did it would stutter, but now if you do THAT it stutters and STALLS...PLUG wires seem fine, going to look at distributor cap. ONE NOTE...I did get a an EVAP code ONCE PO455, but tighten GAS cap, reset codes and...have not gotten that yet. I noticed when I took off the intake manifold..I cannot GET OFF a hose that hooks up right under the VACUUM TREE...it looks like it runs on drivers side to the back wall..I can't trace it from there (YET)..but it is HARD..and I am afraid to CUT because I was thinking it may have electrical in it...ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks for all your help, Rick

I am looking at the year on your car and I believe I may have given you some wrong information? Would you be willing to give me your VIN# by email so that I can see if I can profile your car. The VIN will give me what engine you have and if this has turbo or not? I can also look up the procedure for removing the intake this way and I should be able to verify the EGR issue? I do not know if you are in the USA or you are in another country since people from all over the world post on here and it seems like there are some differences depending on where you are with this cars? Another way you can verify if you have EGR is by looking at the emissions sticker. It will have what emissions components it has and the location. so for instance it may say it is equipped with AIR/HO2/EGR/Three Way CAT This is just an example. As for the oil on top of the cam cover, replace the oil seal on the oil fill cap. They always leak from there. Now the misfire on those 2 cylinders I would recommend you replace the spark plugs with Volvo plugs and replace the ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor before you do anything else.

Thanks so much for your help. I can be reached via email @ [email protected] for the VIN# request.
I am in the US..California. I am changing the distributor cap & rotor (waiting for the parts) I have already replaced the plugs with the BOSCH platinums (the old ones were really bad).the wires look alright at this point, but once everything is back together, if I get the misfire I wlll change out (money is tight) Also I have already taken off the intake manifold....I don't see anything resembling a EGR valve, plus if you go online, I don't see one for sale???? so I have no clue...I ordered a new oil seperator, and replacing/clreaning a few hoses here an there (PTC..if I need to). Also I am changing my oil and oil filter just in case...I HAVE ALREADY replaced the oil cap gasket...I was wondering also if putting TOO MUCH OIL in it, would it tend to stall the plugs out, light blueish smoke, oil overspray on spark plug area....a while back I took it to a quick lube place, and after that this, all kind of started and my dipdstick seems AWFULLY full of oil even when COLD...and there seemed to be a small amount of oil in the intake manifold...?? Thanks again for any help..and the help you have already provided...sticker under the hood... EXUAST EMMISIONS CONTROL SYSTEM SFI< TC, CAC, HO@S(2), TWC, AIR..that was all I saw ...:)
