1996 Volvo 850 Hard to unbuckle seat belts

Getting out of the seat belts is difficult. It's a wrestling match every time. I need to press down as hard as I can each time to get it to release. Both in the front passenger and driver side. What can I do to make it easier to get the seat belts to release appropriately?

It could be that a plastic part in the seat belt buckle is broken. My drivers side was a hassle to get out of for 4 months or so and then it just stopped working. After taking it apart I saw a blue plastic piece broken. I'm replacing it this week.
