1993 Volvo 850 glove box

The glove box is stuck closed. It is not locked just too full and the catch will not work and it is stuck closed. I don't want to pull it open and break it. been there done that. how do I get it open?

Have you tried pushing forward on the door and then releasing the latch. Taking some of the tension off might make it easier to open.
