Electrical problem
1987 Volvo 240 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200K miles
My alt is 3 months old, & the battery is about the same age.
Starting the 1987 Volvo 240GL is instant, but the alt would not charge. The bat voltage was 12.5 & droped steadly as the car idled. I removed the AC fuse & the car started charging.
At idle the charge voltage creeps up slowly from what the battery was reading before starting the car (12.35 V) and climbs steadly through 13.5 V.
It doen not seem like the belts are loose, but as I increast the RPM the charge voltage slowly drops down & as soon as I go back to idle it is back steadly charging.
It looks like my gorunds are good (I jumped my "jumper cables" from the - on the Bat directly to the Alt case with no diffrence).
Thoughts?
