Voltmeter stopped working

My voltmeter gauge is having issues: it was working great, and then while driving the truck, the needle just jumped to 3 o'clock. When I turn the truck off, the needle goes back to 0; turn the key on. Back to 3. It's getting power, but no signal. I've checked all the wires, but no luck. Is there a fuse, or something else going on?

Good morning,

There is no signal. It is just a voltmeter that reads the voltage of the battery from the wiring.

Use an external meter to verify the actual voltage. From the sounds of it, the dash unit itself is the issue. It could be the printed circuit board or the connector at the dash itself.

Would I use the voltmeter on the battery, or somewhere else?

12.83 at the battery currently.

Okay, then most likely either the connector or the cluster itself.

Pulled the gauge out, tested the clips, and was getting 12v to the gauge. Put a different gauge in, worked like a charm. I guess the new gauge went bad.

Well, just lost the replacement voltmeter gauge today. Exact same behavior as the first one: working great, then all of a sudden, it’s at 9 o’clock. Is it getting too much voltage?

No, either the connector at the back of the cluster or the printed circuit board inside the cluster is the issue.
