Engine Performance problem
2001 Volkswagen TDI Front Wheel Drive Manual

i notice now that when my revs get between 3 - 4 i hear 1 click noise every time i get to those revs and it then lacks in power if i turn off engine and start up it is ok till i hit between 3 - 4 revs again i notice my temp gauge some times works and dont ? my friend said it due to water pump ? but lack of power i dont think it be the water pump would it ? as soon as i hear the tic the lack of power happens ?

first of all I own 4 (four) TDI and 2 (two) Vanagon's with TDI I have never in my life have taken any of these TDI over 3000 RPM !!!! these are diesels not gas engines you do not get power out of a diesel by revs for example a semi truck rolling down the highway at 75 miles an hour is only tacking at 1800 rpm's at any rate, you would have to donate $500 to the site for me to teach you how to drive your TDI and get 65 plus miles per gallon. now to answer your question, the noise "click" that you are probably hearing is the turbo wast gate opening up and dumping all the boost that you have created by the high RPM's before you blow up the engine it's a safety precaution for people that don't know how to drive a diesel when you turn the engine off the computer just resets itself. and about your temperature gauge you are not telling me enough like, when it works and what it doesn't work, if the car is cold or hot, or if it occurs after you have rived it up between 3000 and 4000 RPM's ?
