2006 Volkswagen Passat 6 cyl Manual 80000 miles

hi how can i get the tailgate release switch on the driver side door panel to open the tailgate and also the remote to open it?? how do i repair it?

On my 2002 Passat, there is a lock inside on the drivers door, which enables or disables these buttons.

Not too sure about 2006 though
