For a few months, the car has been slow to shift out of first when cold. This could be worked around by using the "4" position. We live far from a reliable dealer, but we had it scanned last week while on vacation. The only scan code was for a switch on the transmission, which we planned to fix ASAP. The dealer said he couldn't check the transmission fluid level, because it must be a certain temp to check it, and we couldn't leave the car there all day.
A few days later, it has gotten worse. Shifts can be abrupt, it sometimes won't shift from first, and sometimes ALL the gear indicators light up on the dashboard (PRND432). Yesterday the MIL went on, and it stays on despite our topping up the oil. So we are not driving it and wondering what to do.
- The closest dealer is an hour away. A better dealer is two hours away. Is it safe to drive that far w/ the MIL on, or should we have the car towed?
- Are the two problems (tranny and MIL) likely related?
- Any ideas as to what is going on and what it is likely to cost to fix?
