2002 Volkswagen Passat replace engine?

Hi,
There is a highly reputable and professional VW mechanic in my area. Even so, am I insane for even considering replacing my 2002 passat's engine that blew at 89k miles with one with 47k miles? Total cost will be $4600.00.
Just looking for some feedback.

What blew on your engine? For that cost I'll walk away that replacement engine is half dead for me. For that amount I can easily get a second hand vehicle and still have money in my pocket.

Watch yourself on this deal I smell something fishy and am not there to help you hook it-My opinion
