I have a small puncture wound to my oil pan. I'm wondering if there is a sealant I can purchase that will get my car home (5 miles) safely so I can work on it. Also... I know next to nothing about cars, but the pan seems pretty easy to replace. Is this something an amateur can take on?

Hi, Try to keep It full of Oil , Till You get home .If it's leaking To bad then have It towed home. No Sealant Will Hold On The Oil Pan .To Do The job Is Fairly easy , Remove the Skid plate ,If it has one Remove All the oil from The oil Pan . Remove All the bolts From the Pan ,Tap On the Pan With a rubber mallet To loosen The Silicone seal. clean The Block Surface good With a Putty knife , Remove all The silicone.Put Fresh Silicone on The New oil pan And Bolt Back up.Do not Overtighten The small bolts. Use A Quarter Inch Rachet And Socket To tighten them.Get The Pan And silicone from VW, Not Too Expensive.

Hope This Helps you,
Good luck
