2001 Volkswagen Passat Changing Brake Light bulb

There are carpeted flaps located in the trunk directly behind the taillights. Open them up to access the bulb trays that are clipped into the lense assemblies. Squeeze the tabs on both sides and the bulb tray will come off and you'll have access to all the bulbs at once.
