I JUST NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE IS MAKING THIS TAPPING NOISE THAT INCREASES IN SPEED IF THE ENGINE IS GOING FASTER--I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND LISTENED AT AN IDLE AND COULD HEAR THE NOISE, THEN I REVED THE ENGINE A LITTLE AND THE TAPPING WENT FASTER.
I FEAR THIS IS REALLY, REALLY BAD...I'VE ALWAYS TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CAR.

Hi there,

This may be a faulty hydraulic lifter, you may be able to fix this by giving the engine a oil change with a good quality flush, this may clear any carbon deposits that may be impeding the lifter valve, if this dose not work the lifters must be replaced as a set, and make sure that who ever dose this is aware of the precautions with replacing these as if not they can do serious engine damage.
