Last month, I had my serpentine belt replaced. A few days ago, I heard very strange noises coming from the engine and took it in to a different European car mechanic. They had to replace the serpentine belt tensioner. My question is, when the serpentine belt is replaced, is the tensioner replaced as well customarily? Or are these two different processes?

Hello

These are two different processes. When you are replacing the belt all pulley wheels should be inspected for bad bearings, loose, noise. However you could replace the belt today and tomorrow the tensioner brake without warning.
