1. I've replaced the ac compressor twice but R-12 always ends up leaking through the gasket that separates the 2 halves of the compressor (i know this from the dye). When each new compressor is installed I install a new dryer and expansion valve and my independent vw dealer ensures the system lines are cleaned out, the correct oil is included with the R-12, and a vacuum test is performed.
What causes this? I'm getting the compressors from a long time rebuilder.
2. Until or if I replace the compressor I want to keep heat out of the heater core/evaporator box so I can take full advantage of the cooling capability that exists. Is there any problem with clamping both of the heater hoses that go in and out of the heater core in order to prevent circulation of hot water through the core?
