1992 Volkswagen Passat Lost freon

1. I've replaced the ac compressor twice but R-12 always ends up leaking through the gasket that separates the 2 halves of the compressor (i know this from the dye). When each new compressor is installed I install a new dryer and expansion valve and my independent vw dealer ensures the system lines are cleaned out, the correct oil is included with the R-12, and a vacuum test is performed.
What causes this? I'm getting the compressors from a long time rebuilder.
2. Until or if I replace the compressor I want to keep heat out of the heater core/evaporator box so I can take full advantage of the cooling capability that exists. Is there any problem with clamping both of the heater hoses that go in and out of the heater core in order to prevent circulation of hot water through the core?

Ok first of no it won't hurt anything but it won't gain anything either. The system is made to hold only so many ounces of freon and that is it. It don't matter if the car it at full temp or cold it only hold so many ounces and that it. So you need to get the pressures checked to see what the high side it doing compared to the low side. See the pressures will change as the air temp and such change and if you over fill it you will creat to much pressure and something has to give. Also doing this will allow you see if the high pressure and low pressure switches are working correctly and the fans also need to come on when the A/C is on or it will allow pressure to get to high too. Let me know what you find.
