Hi

I have a 2001 VW JETTA VR6. After having the fuel filter replaced a few weeks ago, I turned on the ac as it was icredibly hot here in FL and the smell was SOOOO bad.
I have NEVER had that happen before and couldnt figure out what I ran over if anything.
The VW sales rep said I need to get some thing done to it that would cost around $150
I let it go thinking ok I will tolerate the smell and turn the ac on when the florida heat nearly kills me.

My ? is this...could it be from the new fuel filter?? How long will it take for the nasty, horrible smell to go away!? ALSO, how do I get better gas mileage? Should I invest in the little bottles of fuel enhancers they sell at AutoZone?

I have a 2001 Jetta that has smelly air coming from the vents too. I think it's the 5 year old plastic or foam insulation heating up in the Florida sun that is creating the death smell. Kinda smells like a dead rodent until it cools off, then it seems to be bearable, or I'm just getting used to it
