I have a 1997 Jetta Jazz and the power is just not there. I can put the pedal down and it is more than hesitating. I was recently attempting to climb a reasonably steep hill and it wouldn't do it in 2nd. Downshifted and it died in 1st. No power at all. It often bucks a little when I'm in 3rd or higher gears. My mechanic here thinks it may be the fuel pump, but is not sure. He said he couldn't get the sensors read. I live in Manila and it will cost me $1,500.00 just to hook up the car to the computer. Any ideas??? Truly appreciate you all taking a look at my problem and helping out if you can. [/b]

Look into the Mass Air Flow sensor. It basically mixes the right amount of oxygen with the fuel. Jetta's are notorious for having faulty ones. You can test this by simply disconnecting the mass air flow sensor and see if your engine runs better for the moment. If so, order one yourself and snap it on. There are other places on the web that will help you with this.. other people with the same problem.

Thanks for the response. We found out that it is the Secondary Air Injection Pump. Now, finding one is another issue. If anyone has an idea of where to locate a used one who would ship to an APO address (I currently live in the Philippines), that would be just the icing on the cake. Thanks again.
