I have a 1992 volkswagon passat with a 4 cyl.,2.0 engine. my engine surges while idling and during acc/decelleration. It runs fine once I get going. I changed both fuel pumps and fuel filter. But still have the same problem. Is there a common area that I should focus my trouble shooting? It ran fine until I ran it real low on gas. Thank you

Hey Markie,
Try a few tanks of gas with fuel injector cleaner. I like chevron with techron.

How many miles? Might need to clean the throttle body, idle air control valve and the EGR valve. Alos checlk for vacuum leaks.

Good luck and let us know. :)

Was the fuel pump/flow diagnosed as the problem?

Why was it changed?

I had a customer that had a car that wouldn't start, so they went through a series of bizarre motions and it started when they did that, and assumed it had to do with what they were doing when it reality it had nothing to do with the trouble source.

Because you ran low on fuel may have nothing to do with the problem.

No, but it acts like it is not getting gas when you start out. You have to really accelerate and hold in the clutch for the engine not to do it.
