Hello,
I just purchased an 07 Jetta last week. It is a 2.5 5 cyl base model automatic with about 5600 miles. They said it was a loaner car. It is my first VW, so I hope I made a good decision. I have noticed a very high pitched whine (like a mosquito in your ear) from the engine upon accelerating. It goes away once it hits about 3rd or 4th gear. Any ideas? I'm hoping it is just the way this type of car sounds. Thank you.

Manual trans? Does the noise stay the same regardless of engine rpm?

It is an automatic and the whine does seem to get a little higher upon acceleration, but like I said it goes away after it settles into 3rd or 4th gear. Thanks again!

Try putting the car in neutral while it is making the noise......... see if it goes away or changes

It is not there while in neutral or while idling. It seems to only occur during acceleration in the lower gears.

Sounds like a trans problem. Might want to have a shop do a diagnostic before something big happens.
