Bumping sound over right front tire area

I have a 1996 VW Jetta VR6 it has 110,00 miles on it. It has been very well maintained and all. Just recently I began to hear a popping and or bumping sound located in the front around the tire. My first impression was that I had hit something and it was banging against the undercarriage but, I could not find anything I have inspected both sides and they look the same . Can you give me some idea of what it is and tell me if I should park it until I can repair it or will it be okay to drive just to and from work approx. 2 1/2 miles a day.
