96 VW Jetta - replaced oxygen sensor / radio malfunctioning

Hey mrsjetta,
"safe" on your tune box means the radio has gone into "theft mode" and will occur if there was a battery disconnect, though why the shop would disconn. the battery for an O2 replacement is beyond me. You'll have to call or stop into a local VW dealer with proof of ownership of the car and they can give you the "code" to get the radio back on! Hope this helps!

The same thing happened to our radio, you can simply remove the radio and the code should be on the radio itself.. don't ask me why. But that is where ours was and now it works fine.
