My 2001 VW Jetta TDI with automatic transmission and two wheel drive has 128000 miles on a diesel engine. This weekend I couldn't open the trunk. When I trigger the trunk release from the door, the remote or the trunk keyhole I can hear the motor/solenoid activate but the mechinism that releases the door is not functioning. Is there a way to mechanically open the trunk? I looked in the trunk from behind the fold down backseat and saw no emergency trunk release or handle or any way that I could gain access to the release mechanism. What should I do?

I'm constantly 4getting that VW has some strange quirks. The trunk release can be actuated by removing the ignition key while sitting, & then pressing the trunk release button. You then need 2 close the driver's doo0r, & now be able 2 open the trunk. It sounds crazy, but I'm still findin' unusual stuff, & I've owned "95 Jetta since new !
