I'm a 17 year old newly licensed driver and my dad just bought me a 2001 jetta gls vr6 (manual). Everything was fine until yesterday when my engine was revving even when I wasn't touching anything. Today on my way to work, it wouldn't go above 20 mph in any gear. I pulled over shut off the car and restarted it. When I put it back in gear it wouldn't move. I called my boyfriend and told him what happened, he said he thinks my clutch is blown, granted he may be correct but he doesn't know enough about cars for me to trust what he has to say. I was wondering what you think it may be, and if it is the clutch, what I might need and if it's possible to do it as a DIY project because I don't have much money I can go and spend on it. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you so much.

The problem is solved. It cost me $923 to fix. It was $415 for the clutch kit, $455 for the labor, and the rest was tax. It took all of 8 hours once the car was dropped off at the shop.
