I need to have my starter replaced on a 1999 VW Jetta. They have quoted me 549$ for parts and labor. Is this a fair price? Thanks.

if i were you i would go and get a starter from the junkyard....but that just me talkin. i dunno but 500+ looks like a lot for a starter but u never know with the Vw......i was quoted 700 for just a catalytic converter and downstream o2 =/......so i went to the guys i get my car customized at and they offered 240 =).......saves me $450
