Hi need some help here bought my first vanagon 2 years ago and dear God I’m hooked never thought I would fall for a vanagon but I fell and fell hard any way back to the problem I just bought a 91 vanagon in all but show room condition my current one is a 84
One owner all the work records done by volts wagon his thing is nice!!! And got it for a thousand dollars fair well knowing it had a blown head gasket (yes its that clean) pulled the head to day and low and behold passenger side head cracked in both cylinders in-between the valves (&^%$*&^#) OK no problem replace he heads however the engine has 167000 on it #1 it got hot enough to crack the heads #2 how hot did it get did it get soften the rings? Will I get blow-by putting new heads on #3 it doesn’t smell smoked( burnt oil) just don’t know the volts motor that well how good are the rings. Are they cast or molly how good is the seat (brief resume pro-built racing Ron Hornaday Jr, AR inc. Bob Glidden Ford racing, Carroll Shelby composites supervisor series 1) my first gut tells me just re build it bone head but some of the volts mechanics (in Ventura.) say you cant kill the thing with any-thing but a hand-grenade Just re-place the heads (Your opinion please)
