my front blower motor quit working after it smelled like something burned out. how difficult is it to replace this part? can it be done without taking the dashboard out? any suggestions? any repair manual to read?

Sorry, no.It's not such a bad job. Maybe 6 hours.You have to take the cluster and dash out, as well as the heater assembly. Use a digital camera and take a lot of pictures so you can put all those cables and wires back right in the same place.
I use a putty knife and pry the two halves apart. they should just pop, but you have to pry pretty hard.
As long as you have the heater apart, at least flush out the core with cleaner and water.Or better yet, spend a few hundred more and put in a new core.
I also bought some thin foam and fixed the bad foam on the control doors.
there are clips to hold it together, but recently, I've just taken to glueing them. I think I used "Right Stuff" last time.
