The battery in my Jetta was continously being drained and it took some time to find out what the cause was. It was determined that it was something to do with the wiring to the alternator. At that time we had a new alternator and glow plugs installed. Since then it sometimes doesn't always start on the first turn but always on the second. A couple of weeks after the repair, the glow plug starts flashing and the engine light comes on and stays on after I put my car in gear. A mechanic told me that if it is starting and running okay, I should be alright to drive it until I can get an appointment.

Any ideas as to why this would be happening and is it safe to drive?
