2001 Volkswagen Jetta Cabin air filter location

2001 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 80K miles

Greetings,

I have been unable to locate the cabin air filter. The owners manual does not speak of it and I cannot find it under the hood near or in the cowl nor underneath the dash. Can you tell me where to find the "hidden" compartment?
