Electrical problem
2000 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 88000k miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Symptoms:
1)Interior lights stay on all the time while driving.
Door ajar chime stays on for about 2 minutes when first starting my car.

2)Lock button on remote key does not lock doors.

3)Automatic Locking doors from passengers door inside will lock all doors, but alarm will not activate.

4)Locking the drivers door manually with key does work, but alarm will not set.

5)Holding the key in the locked position will roll up all windows and close sunroof like it's supposed to.

6)Unlock button works and all locks will unlock when i use it.

From what I can tell it seems like the car isn't recognizing that the drivers door has been closed, or perhaps one of the other doors? This sounds slightly different from everyone's problems, and it's not intermittent. Any advice?

OMG almost the same thing with my car too but somehow manages to lock 90% of the time. I have to unlock all the doors then hit lock and seems to work, it's only the front doors though, i don't have any solid advice but thought you might feel better that your not alone on this one.......i did take it to a mechanic and to change the mechanism that operates the lock it's like $200-300 each. apparently you can't just replace a small part you have to change the whole mechanism, that's as much as i know about it
good luck with you car!

Hi danielle7799,

Check if the door ajar switch is faulty and grounded all the time.

It could be a loose switch rubber cover or a misaligned door.

Close all door and open each door at a time and manually press the door closed switch to check if the interior light will go off.
