I have a 99 Jetta, that I bought used in December. The engine has been rattling for a while when it started up, but then toned down after it warmed up a little.
The Check engine light came on a couple of days ago, and then today as i was driving, there was a noticeable clunk, and the the rattle got much louder instantly. the rattle gets worse as the car speeds up.
there is also a lot of vibration coming from the engine.
Is it a transmission issue or something else? Any idea how much i can expect to pay to have it fixed?
