Electrical problem
1999 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual
----------------------------------------------------------------
My 1999 Jetta frequently stalls on the freeway, the last time this happen I disconnected the number 4 spark plug wire and connect a spare plug plug and had a friend crank the engine. There was no spark. After about an hour, the car started up and I was able to drive it home. Any idea what may cause this and is it something that could be identified by a computer code reader. Ther check engine light comes on after the car starts but it soon goes away.

Hi there,

get the code reader and see if you have any set fault codes, i would be looking for a cam or crank angle sensor fault.

I check the code reader and there isn't anything else going wrong with it. I did notice that there is 12 volts going into the coil pack during the stalling event but no spark coming out of the coil.

Hi there,

I would think that if you have no fixed fault codes that the coil pack may be faulty and causing a short when it over heats, may be see if you can get hold of a good second hand coil to try this theory out, as to start to do a full electrical diagnose is a major undertaking,

Try this next.
