1998 Volkswagen Jetta Timing belt costs.

1998 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Automatic 163000 miles

Hi...

basically whats happened to me now is that my car wouldnt start,it would crank but just not start.

So its been brought to the garage and I was told that it was caused by the timing belt...which i was no surprised because the milage was a 163000...
But i was surprised to here that the work would cost me 2400$...
So I am writting you to know if it was a reasonable price for the whole work of changing most of the engine because of most of the valves being broke because of te timing belt snapping...or am I being screwed over?

Please let me know asap...I haveto pick up my car by Tuesday.
