1997 Volkswagen Jetta power door locks

The key will not activate the power door locks from the outside on either side of the car. The dashboard switch works fine to lock and unlock from inside.All the fuses are good. I have no way to lock the car from the outside. Help!

When did you last replace the battery in your key/door lock activator? I'd start there since you've covered the other bases. You can't lock the car from outside? Well, how about locking the other three doors from the inside and then using your key to lock the driver's door once you're outside? Reverse is how you get in...temporarily. Been there and had to do it with my '03 Jetta. Hope this helps!
