Engine Cooling problem
2002 Volkswagen GTI 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

My radiator fan is not turning on in my 2002 Volkswagen GTI. I'm thinking its the cooling fan thermo switch. Is that right? If so, how do i replace it?

first you will want to check fuses and relay.

I checked those already and everything was good. The fuses and the relay check out.

Okay, do you have the manual or auto A/C system so I can look at the correct wiring diagram of the cooling fan.

Yes it is the manual ac system. And I found that it is the wire that goes from the fuse box to the fan. Can I hook up the new wire from the battery directly to the fan and bypass the motor and relay? Or do I need to hook it up from the fuse box?

You will want to replace it in the same place, otherwise you will have to wire up a fused toggle switch and manually turn on/off the fan which is not the best of ideas because an overcooled engine is nearly as bad as an overhetaed engine.
