Computer problem
2000 Volkswagen Golf 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have a 2000 VW Golf. I brought it to the dealer, bought a valet key. Since the car has an ignition inabler the new key had to be re-programed. The technician had problems with this. It would not take the reprogram. After several attempts and disconnecting battery (other things?) the the new key was able to be programed- but as a result the old key no longer worked. Also right after this incident upon a cold start the car will die unless I give it gas and it idles low even after warmed up. I've never had starting or idling problems prior to this. Any ideas?

Thanks

#1- when the new key was finally programmed they must have wiped out the memory of the other keys. Return to the dealer with all keys and make sure they reprogram all of them at no cost (since they are the ones who wiped out the memory).

#2- Most likely they also cleared the throttle body adaptive memory when disconnecting the battery. The dealer should be able to reset the throttle adaption in just a few minutes with a scan tool. Again, there should be no charge to you since it was their actions that cleared the memory.

Good luck
