I have a 1999 Golf with some issues. My biggest one is when I am driving the vehicle slowly or when i t is idling the car does not have an issue. But when I try and hit the gas hard it feels like it wants to turn off. I removed the catylitic converter but that didnt help. Right now I am waiting for a mass airflow sensor to see if thats the problem. Though I disconnected the old one and it still does the same thing.

Any Suggestions????

It wont run hardly at all with the MAF unhooked. Did you verify fuel pressure? check the TPS? have you had the PCM scanned for any trouble codes? I have replaced a bunch of those MAF's, but other things need to be checked as well

About the Mass Air flow being unhooked and the car not running is not true. The problem points towards some issue with the fuel and the MAF controls the fuel as well. I am not pleased with this answer. I do not believe this is an accurate response...Sorry

I have drove it with the MAF unhooked and it ran just like normal until the I had the same problem. I also just changed the MAF and I still get the same results.

I dont have the items to perform other diagnostics or inspections. I am just a man trying to fix this himself. I have a 07 Passat and know what are the costs of repair at a VW dealer

The ignition coils on your car had a bad problem of going out under power. The best way to tell is to remove the coils and look are signs of arching, but sometimes the short is internal and hard to detected. Please check it out and get back me.

If it was the coil then it would go bad when there is moisture in the air. And unfortunately there was not moisture in the air the last time I drove it. Right now I have it at the mechanics shop where they specialize in VW and Audi vehicles. It has been there for over two weeks and they have no idea what is wrong with it either. Any other ideas?

The coils on your car are sealed from the moisture so they would not be effected, the coild are cheap because vw knows there is a problem. Re-scan the pcm for trouble codes, if there are none replace the coils. Somethimes the ecm can not detect a coil failure.

So you are suggesting that I tell them to check the coils on the firewall?

If so how much do you think this would run and Would I be able to perform this change myself? I am pretty car literate and I can get around a car. What do you think?

The coils are directly over the spark plugs. Coil between 25 and 45 each, you can change them yourself np.

I have not done this because the car is at the mechanic. Like I said before he is very stumped I spoke to him today and he said he has not found the issue. I cannot think of anything else it could be so I really need some suggestions. Im sure he knows what he is doing because all they work with is AUDI and VW.

Please ask around to see if anyone else has any ideas.
