my heat gage does not go above the mid point and i turned the car off yesterday and there was a little bit of steam coming up from under the hood.I looked and seen nothing? wet in the back like it sprayed

It sounds like your radiator cap may be leaking a little, or one of the many hoses in that system, check the hose clamps for tightness before you go and buy anything.
